\ Modified Rear Shock
Ask around and you'll find that many
VF owners have suffered from rear shock failure. A rebuild doesn't
help, and since they cannot be repaired the options are pretty
limited. They include 1) getting another used shock and hope it's ok
or 2) spend a significant amount of money on an aftermarket replacement
shock. While option 2 is temping, even a non-performance based shock
will set you back at least $400. You either have to spend the money
or take your chances with another stock shock.
I have come up with a solution that solves both
issues. Late model Honda sportbike shocks performance is well beyond
anything you can get from the original shock. They can also be
purchased on eBay for $20 or less. Another bonus is they can be
rebuilt or upgraded with aftermarket valving if desired.
This modification applies to all VF models
(VF500F, VF700F,
VF750F, VF1000F or VF1000R). Each shock can be tailored to a specific
length, most often a little longer to increase rear ride height. The
conversion cost includes the modifications necessary to the shock to make
it fit and a new spring matched to the riders weight.
The conversion can be performed on many models of shock absorbers.
